Hi. I'm Michael and I like to build better things.

(If only I could talk about most of them...)

Who am I and what have I been doing?

I’m a front-end engineer and designer from Vancouver BC with nearly 6 years of experience, and for the past two years I’ve been working for Finger Food Studios, where I’ve contributed to projects for some of the largest companies in the world, including ■■■■■■■■■, ■■, ■■■■■■, and ■■■■ ■■■.

Why the secrecy?

A literal mountain of NDAs. I'd like to tell you, believe me, I'm super proud of what I've worked on. I just can't say what it is, or who it was for. I'll simply describe the bulk of my work as "developing second screen web applications for an enriched media platform experience". Catchy, huh?

So what can you tell us?

I can tell you I'm passionate, and that I love building better products. At the moment, that means a power combo of Gulp (Grunt's speedier cousin), Lodash (Underscore's speedier cousin), Require and either Knockout or Ractive, plus some relatively awesome MVC JavaScript patterns. For interactivity, jQuery and a whole lot of crazily optimized animations (I know more about debugging SVG/CSS animations on Windows Phones than anyone should).

As for the design side, I know the Apple HIG cover to cover and when to ignore it completely. I've bought Android and Windows Phone devices just to test out the UX/UI, I'm a master of Adobe products, and all of that combines to make me a great designer who always wants to be better, with the engineering background to allow me to make my designs a reality, and more importantly, know when a design isn't technically feasible depending on time constraints.
